FOOTBALL

Eagley Football Club (Formerly Eagley Mills Football Club) can rightly claim to be on of the countries oldest amateur clubs, our existence being traced back as far as 1874. In more recent times the club has gone through a number of changes. Reforming after the Second World War, Eagley entered the Bolton Sunday Schools League and after unprecedented success they moved into the Bolton Combination in the 1958/59 Season.

EAGLEY HISTORY

THE rich tapestry that is Eagley Sports Complex dates back to the start of the great industrial revolution on which Bolton’s wealth was founded more than 200 years ago.

Little Eagley may no longer be a rural village – swallowed up by the expanding town of Bolton over the years – but the sporting activities, including football, cricket, tennis, rounders and even archery, continue to provide a focal point of local leisure life.

Up to 500 members use the facilities on the playing fields which were once overshadowed by five huge mills.

As the local cotton industry died in the 1960s, it looked as though the sporting clubs – chiefly Eagley FC and Bolton Cricket League side Eagley, who had rented the ground from the mills – may lose their fantastic amenity to a housing development.

But the founding fathers of the complex united in 1970, set up a board of trustees and, over an eight-year period, bought the land to safeguard the future of their various sports.

Today, The Eagley Sports Complex and its teams continue to be a dedicated part of the local community and to nurture our youth teams with continued investment and growth.
